Part
worn tyres are the tyres which have been removed from a vehicle and
are resold. They may excite people when it comes to their low costs,
but there’s more to the story, there are specific laws under which
these tyres are sold.
While
buying tyres, we have certain expectations in mind. Various
characteristics are responsible for ensuring the safety of the
driver.
Tyresafe,
a safety body held a survey in 2017 and claimed that only four out of
67 tyres that they inspected met the legal requirements. Also, the
National Tyre Distribution Association has stated that 97% of all
part-worn tyres are sold illegally.
Now,
such scenarios may put safety at stake. It is essential to keep some
of the legal requirements in mind while buying part-worn tyres coventry.
The
Motor Vehicle Tyres (Safety) Regulations 1994, part of the Consumer
Protection Act has laid the following principal requirements
necessary:
1.
The structure of the tyre should never be compromised. It should be
free from all types of large cuts, interior, and exterior bulges or
lumps.
2.
It should be ensured that the tyres have passed the inflation test
before they are sold.
3.
The original grooves of the tyre must be clearly visible, and they
must have a depth of at least 2mm across the full breadth of the
tread.
4.
A relevant 'E' mark must be strictly mentioned in case the tyres have
not been retreaded.
5.
Part-worn tyres that have been retreaded must have the following:
BS
AU 144B, 144C, 144D, or 144e markings on the sidewall.
To
identify the original model and manufacturer, a permanent mark should
be made on the tyres. The word ‘RETREAD’ must be clearly
mentioned on the sidewalls and further markings as per the ECE rules.
An
additional speed category symbol and load capacity marking should be
present for tyres that are marked BS AU 144e.
The
indication ‘PART WORN’ must also appear next to BS or ECE
approval mark, or next to the word ‘RETREAD’.
Part Worn Tyres Coventry
may sound like a good bargain, but they come with risks. To avoid
dangerous situations, one must keep the legal requirements in mind.
These tyres usually come from countries like Germany, where the tyres
are changed as soon as they reach 3mm and are then shipped to the UK.
Risks
of buying part-worn tyres
Since
these tyres are removed when they reach 3mm, they can cause problems
in extreme weather conditions. Their gripping power starts to
deteriorate, and there are high chances that they may become
problematic in wet terrains.
Getting
a tyre that matches the pattern of your other tyres might also be a
daunting task.
Cost
of part worn tyres
A
part-worn tyre can cost up to £20, depending on the size, brand and
condition. These tyres can cost less, but a buyer should always check
them according to the legal requirements set by the authorities.
While
buying Part-Worn

should be very careful. Coventry

the delivery of tested and certified part worn tyres, so your safety
